Newspaper obituaries - source not yet determined MILES M'NALLY, SR., DIED AT EWING HOME TUESDAY
MORNING The subject of these lines was born in County Mayo, Ireland, ninety-five years ago and came to America in 1847, landing in Montreal. After a short time there he came to West Virginia, in which state and in Ohio he lived until 1859, when he came to Missouri and settled on a farm near Monticello, this county; having a short time before married Miss Elizabeth Clark, in W. Va. [md note: also born in Ireland] She died at Ewing five years ago. Mr. McNally, unitil about eight years ago, when he retired from his activities, was engaged in farming and stock raising and became the owner of considerable land in the county, including the farm near Lewistown upon which he lived from 1880 until moving to Ewing seven years ago. He died at Ewing Tuesday morning, the 29th inst, from the infirmities of old age augmented by an accidental fall, occurring last week. Our subject was a man of wonderful endurance and great intellectuality. Coming to a new country with the language of which he knew little at first, and entirely ignorant of is methods and customs, having little of the learning of schools, he prevailed over obstacles that to most men would [remainder of article torn off] Mrs. Mary McGinnis Dies in St. Louis Mrs. Mary Jane McGinnis, a life-long resident
of Lewis and Knox Counties, passed away Monday morning at the Mother of
Good Council Hospital in St. Louis after an extended illness. Mrs. McGinnis,
who was always know as Dot to her relatives and friends, was born west
of Monticello, August 12th, 1865, one of nine children of Miles and Elizabeth
Clark McNally. |
